Symposium Sessions
Continuous Glucose Monitoring: Navigating the Highs and Lows
Managing diabetes in older adults presents unique challenges, particularly when it comes to detecting and preventing hypoglycemia. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) offers a new level of visibility that can improve safety and outcomes in long-term care settings. In this session, participants will learn how CGM technology has evolved, how it supports hypoglycemia prevention, and what to consider when implementing CGM in older populations.

Psychotropic Medications: Use in Dementia and Improving GDR success
Managing behavioral symptoms in older adults with dementia often involves the use of psychotropic medications—but these come with significant risks. In this session, participants will learn about the clinical considerations for using these medications, including side effects and risk-benefit tradeoffs, and explore patient-centered strategies to improve the success of gradual dose reductions (GDR) in long-term care settings.

In this session, participants will learn how to apply Beers Criteria and evidence-based deprescribing strategies to optimize medication regimens. Practical techniques any care team can use to enhance safety and effectiveness will also be discussed.
