{"id":424,"date":"2016-09-28T18:22:06","date_gmt":"2016-09-28T18:22:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/guardianpharmacy.net\/atlanta\/?p=424"},"modified":"2016-09-28T18:22:06","modified_gmt":"2016-09-28T18:22:06","slug":"understanding-medicare-and-open-enrollment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/guardianpharmacy.com\/georgia-atlanta\/2016\/09\/28\/understanding-medicare-and-open-enrollment\/","title":{"rendered":"Understanding Medicare and Open Enrollment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Whether you\u2019re a healthcare provider, patient or vendor, dealing with Medicare can be difficult.\u00a0 Knowing the facts and enrollment dates can make navigating this complicated system a bit easier.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">There are four parts to Medicare Coverage:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Part A:<\/strong>\u00a0 Covers hospital stays, skilled nursing care, nursing home stays, hospice and home health<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part B:<\/strong> Covers certain doctors\u2019 visits, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventative services<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part C:<\/strong> Also called the \u201cMedicare Advantage Plans,\u201d in which private companies contracted with Medicare provide you A, B, and D coverage.\u00a0 These plans are like HMO or PPO\u2019s and your choices of physicians and locations may be limited.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part D:<\/strong> Covers your prescription drugs<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/guardianpharmacy.net\/atlanta\/files\/2016\/09\/medicare.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-426 aligncenter\" alt=\"medicare\" src=\"http:\/\/guardianpharmacy.net\/atlanta\/files\/2016\/09\/medicare.jpg\" width=\"940\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Medicare Part D Open Enrollment 2017 is\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #ff0000\">October 15 &#8211; December 7, 2016<\/span>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">If you turned 65 in the past year or need to change your Part D plan, this is the time to enroll.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Each prescription drug plan has a formulary, which is a list of drugs that they will cover.\u00a0 These drugs may be placed on different tiers, which can determine how much the drug will cost you.\u00a0 A lower tier drug is usually the least expensive.<\/p>\n<p>Most Medicare plans have a coverage gap, also known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicare.gov\/part-d\/costs\/coverage-gap\/part-d-coverage-gap.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cdonut hole.\u201d<\/a> You enter the donut hole when you\u2019ve reached the full amount that your plan initially covers.\u00a0 Once that happens, you\u2019re required to pay the full cost of the drug you until you reach a certain limit set by your plan.\u00a0 After that, \u201ccatastrophic coverage\u201d kicks in, and most plans resume covering the majority of the drug costs.<\/p>\n<p>The best method to determine which plan is best for you is to visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicare.gov\/\">www.Medicare.gov<\/a> and select \u201cChoose a Drug Plan.\u201d\u00a0 You can enter all of your prescription drugs and dosages and the site will recommend the best plans for you.\u00a0 You may also review total monthly and annual costs and see what rating is given to each plan.\u00a0 Going through this website may take some time, but it could potentially save you hundreds of dollars each year.<\/p>\n<p>In order to make informed choices during the open enrollment period, you must have a good understanding of what Medicare covers and which prescription drug plans are best for you.\u00a0 At Guardian Pharmacy Atlanta, we accept all major Medicare Part D plans, and we are happy to answer questions for you regarding coverage.\u00a0 We have an expert billing department that is very helpful if you are having trouble understanding why a drug is covered or not covered.<\/p>\n<p>For general Medicare questions, you may call our consultant pharmacist, Lori Newcomb, at (<strong>404) 309-4958<\/strong>.\u00a0 If you have specific questions about drug costs in your plan, please call our billing department at (<strong>770) 635-3301.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dealing with Medicare can be difficult.
