Brookdale hosted an invitation only Dementia Care education day featuring one of America\u2019s leading educators on Dementia, Teepa Snow.<\/p>\n

The topic was \u201cHow to communicate when someone has dementia.\u201d \u00a0Guardian Pharmacy Atlanta was in attendance at this premier event.<\/p>\n

Teepa Snow, an occupational therapist and international expert on dementia care, led an interactive education session for attendees that included brain functioning at various stages of dementia, and how families and health care professionals can interpret the dementia patient\u2019s voice, words, phrases, and emotions to effectively communicate with them.<\/p>\n

All of this is part of Teepa\u2019s\u00a0 \u201cPositive Approach to Care\u201d, and the techniques are easy to learn, and extremely helpful when working with people with dementia.\u00a0\u00a0 She taught attendees different techniques to encourage cooperation at the different stages of dementia, and also how to interpret the needs of a patient that cannot communicate with words.<\/p>\n
