Growing with Guardian: Building a Supportive Culture
For Bryce McCoy, professional growth has never been about climbing a ladder—it’s been about showing up, stepping in, and supporting others along the way.
Bryce found his way into pharmacy by chance during college: a grocery store pharmacist offered him an extra $1.50 an hour to help out in the pharmacy. That small opportunity launched what would become a long and meaningful career in long-term care pharmacy.
Joining the Guardian Family
Bryce joined Guardian Pharmacy in Indianapolis as a pharmacy fulfillment technician in 2012. He quickly became known as the person who would take on anything. No matter what the situation, Bryce was always open to help.
“I told my supervisor, ‘Just show me whatever and I’ll do it,’” he said. From fulfillment to medical records to delivery coordination, he learned every part of the operation. “I made myself indispensable.”
Leading with Perspective
Bryce’s transition into leadership brought a fresh challenge: balancing his own commitment to excellence with an appreciation for the diverse ways people work best.
“Once I became a parent, it all made sense,” he said. “You learn quickly that not everyone operates at the same pace or under the same pressures, and that letting go of the little things can make a big difference.”
One of the most meaningful influences in his career has been Johanna Readinger, R.Ph., Pharm.D., President of Guardian Pharmacy of Indiana. “She’s been a mentor and life coach to me—not just helping me grow professionally, but helping me grow as a person.” Their bond, rooted in years of teamwork and trust, is something Bryce now pays forward.
Guiding Pharmacy Operations
In January 2025, Bryce was promoted to Director of Operations (DOO) for Guardian Pharmacy of Indiana. In this role, he ensures the pharmacy runs efficiently, meets regulatory requirements, and delivers exceptional customer service. He oversees staffing, workflow, and technology improvements to keep operations running smoothly, ensuring that medications are dispensed accurately and delivered on time.
DOOs at Guardian also develop and mentor supervisory staff, foster teamwork across departments, and drive process improvements that strengthen both quality and efficiency.
Working closely with leadership and customer service teams, Bryce helps resolve issues quickly, onboard new communities, and build lasting relationships—all with the goal of supporting caregivers and safeguarding the residents who rely on Guardian every day.
Developing Future Leaders
Bryce sees leadership as an opportunity to help others rise. “I tell the supervisors I lead: ‘I don’t want you to be as good as me—I want you to be better.’” He encourages team members to pursue growth, whether it’s through cross-training, certifications, or taking on new challenges.
“This role could be anybody’s,” he said. “I’m not here because I’m special. I’m here because someone saw my potential, and I want to do the same for others.”
People-First Approach to Success
That people-first approach shapes his day-to-day leadership. “We operate as one team, whether you’re a pharmacy assistant or the president. Titles don’t matter. What matters is showing up and helping.”
Bryce is intentional about creating a culture where employees feel safe, valued, and seen. “For some people, work is the safest space they have,” he said. “And if you’re doing your job and showing up, I’ve got your back.”
